This is a pretty and yet simple real jet brooch from the Victorian era. 
Black became big business during the 1800s as a fashion accessory and of course as mourning jewellery, meaning pieces of jewellery appropriate to wear for a funeral and as a tribute to a relative or loved one. Jewellers used many different black materials to create these pieces.
It is designed to resemble a bow and has a c clasp on the back.
