Victorian BOG OAK LOCKET and Bead Necklace with Bacchante Cameo carving

✯ Bog Oak Carved Locket on Beaded necklace ✯

This is a stunning piece of history.
It is an antique locket with a beautiful carved bacchante cameo on the front.
The outside of the locket has a soft shiny mat black finish which looks like it may be enamelled as there is a small chip to the bottom back of the locket.
When the locket is opened there are wonderfully detailed engravings on one side and an old photo on the other which can easily be removed.
I believe it is made from bog oak but may also be vulcanite which was also a popular black material used in the Victorian era. It opens and shuts perfectly and is suspended on a long string of black graduated beads of approximately 24".
The beaded necklace looks to be bakelite or something similar and is possibly a later addition. This is a gorgeous piece of true Victoriana.
